Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.
He started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
