Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve closing table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best bettors in the world. While participating in net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amount. I think tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world may be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen wagering on web poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes Omaha and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash rounds?
