Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve closing table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While wagering on online poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all in. I believe Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I think television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world might be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be found gambling on net poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
