Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
