Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve final table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest enthusiasts around the world. While playing internet poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I believe television can skew our view of the real world at times. The best poker players in the world may be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes Omaha and hold’em.
