Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from others kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
