Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha hi/lo begins just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of betting follows where gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is known as the flop. A further round of wagering ensues. Once all the players have either called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of wagering follows at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to put together the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of entrants often get confused. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to use exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same approach in just about every poker game.

A low hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no low hand available, the high hand wins the entire pot.

While it seems difficult at the start, after a few hands you will be able to get the fundamental subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 provides an amazing collection of wagering possibilities and seeing that you have several individuals shooting for the high, and a few trying for the low hand. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
