Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he enjoyed taking part in numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming really competitive in the above-mentioned card games as he was competing against his dad. After finishing secondary school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a bit and moved to New York City to participate in some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first two years were rough as he would play extensive hours and lost most times. He made some extra cash by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He judged he possibly could better his game by balancing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more sleep and focus more on poker.
The definite advancement in his abilities began when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly challenge each other. He had access into a few of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would sharpen his strategic thinking skills. He used these strategic ideas in the game of No-Limit holdem.
Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. She is one of the best female players the poker arena ever. Howard Lederer relocated to Sin City in 1993 and participated in cash games for the following 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
